Can You Drink Coffee Before Botox?

It’s early morning and you’re about to enjoy your daily cup of coffee. But then it hits you – you have a Botox appointment today!

You might now be wondering – Can I drink coffee before botox?

In this post, I’ll go over if you can drink coffee before botox, and after botox. I’ll also talk about how long you should wait and some alternatives to try in the meantime.

Can You Drink Coffee Before Botox?

There is no scientific evidence to prove coffee has an effect on Botox treatments.

However, a lot of people do not recommend drinking coffee before you get a Botox injection.

This is because coffee is high in caffeine. Caffeine is a stimulant that can increase your blood pressure and heart rate, make your blood thinner, and dilate your blood vessels.

Plus, hot drinks dilate blood vessels too.

So, if you drink coffee before getting a botox injection, those effects of caffeine can make the tiny blood vessels on your skin break easily and bleed where the needle pricks.

So, bruising could be possible.

I don’t know for sure how often this happens, but it’s always good to err on the side of caution.

So, you are better off not drinking coffee or other caffeine-containing beverages within 24 hours prior to your botox injection.

Caffeine lasts for about 10 hours in our system, but 24 hours is the recommended duration.

Can You Drink Coffee After Botox?

Drinking coffee (or any other drink or food containing caffeine) after a Botox treatment can make your skin more vulnerable to bruising the same way it was before the treatment.

Plus, caffeine’s effect on your blood pressure, heart rate, and blood viscosity can make Botox disperse further away from the injection site, lessening its effectiveness.

So, try to avoid coffee or anything else with caffeine for 24 hours after the treatment is carried out.

Alternatives To Coffee Before Botox

If you have been a coffee drinker for long, there is a chance that you might find it hard to pass the day without it. That is because caffeine in your coffee is an addictive substance.

Depending on how much tolerance and dependency you have developed for caffeine, you can experience headaches, anxiety, irritability, nausea, low mood, and lack of energy if you don’t get your dose of caffeine.

Here are some alternatives to try instead for the 48 hours you have to be without coffee.

Plus, these are healthier and more nutritious.

  • Fruit juice. Blend up your favorite fruits and berries into juice, smoothie, or shake that is nutritious, healthy, and yummy.
  • Hot soup. Another tasty alternative with so many nutritious and health benefits, with a ton of recipes to choose from!
  • Caffeine-free herbal teas such as peppermint, lemon balm, camomile, hibiscus, etc can help with your coffee cravings and offer other health benefits too.
  • Water. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. It helps with caffeine headaches too.

Bottom Line

The bottom line is that you should avoid coffee or other beverages high in caffeine for 24 hours before Botox and 24 hours after the injection.

Instead of coffee, try some of the alternatives I suggested.

It’s just 48 hours and I am sure you could do it. It’s not like you get Botox every day.
